Blood Supply and Demand during the COVID19 pandemic
Study Description
The primary objective of the study is to investigate the impact of the COVID19 pandemic on blood utilization patterns and how this affected Blood Collection and Blood Component Preparation
The secondary objectives are:
1. To identify the basic need of blood components in a pandemic situation when compared to a non-pandemic situation and identify factors that affected this need
2. To evaluate measures taken to manage transfusion needs and ensure sufficient blood supply in the COVID19 pandemic on the hospital transfusion service level (part one) and on the blood supplier level (part two)
3. To investigate the effect of the COVID19 pandemic on blood donations and blood collection patterns
4. To evaluate the effect of the COVID19 pandemic on the blood component production and wastage (red cell concentrates, platelet concentrates, plasma and whole blood)
5. To investigate whether the COVID19 pandemic led to implementation of new or modified blood components or new transfusion practices
